Senior Design is a year and a half long group project with the goal of having students follow a project from start to finish. This includes conception, research, design, prototyping, fabrication, integration, testing, cost analysis, labor analysis and documentation. The device that Morgan Oxenrider, Charles Lee and I decided on is a system which allows the user to choose what song is played through thought. This was done by picking up EEG signals from the user through electrodes. From these signals the brain state could be determined, utilizing machine learning to increase accuracy. The state is then transmitted via Bluetooth to an off body system, then used to choose which song plays from a set list. The system was demonstrated a number of times in front of classmates, professors, friends and family alike; we are all very proud of our work. Pictures of the physical products are below, followed by the Final Design Review.
The on body housing is shown above. BNC outlets are used to connect the electrodes to the housing. Velcro straps are used to connect the housing to the user. Below the circuitry for the EEG signal acquisition is shown in the housing.
